"iPad-a-day" Grant

From July 1, 2011 until December 31, 2011, The iTaalk Autism Foundation will select weeks at random to grant one iPad-a-day (for 7 days) to individuals (0-22) with an Autism diagnosis.  Grant guidelines are found below. You only need to apply once.  Once your completed application and full documentation have been accepted – you will be considered for the rest of the year.

Grant Guidelines:

Application must be completed and submitted by the legal guardian of the individual, and must be received by midnight on the last day of each month to be considered for any grants the following month. (e.g. Applications received by 11:59 pm June 30, 2011 will be considered for any July "iPad-a-day" week grants.)  If you are not chosen, you do NOT have to reapply.  You will continue to be considered for the rest of the year.

Individual must be between the ages of 0 and 22 at the time of application submission.

The individual must have a Medical Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis and have supporting documentation available at the time of applying. Acceptable documentation includes:  1) Letter of diagnosis from a Medical Doctor, Neuropsychologist and/or Neurologist on office letterhead that includes current address and phone for the office, or 2) A current IEP.

Required also, a letter of support in implementing the device on letterhead from a current Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, BCBA, Special Education Teacher, Behavioral Consultant, Psychologist and/or Classroom Aide (Co-signed by Teacher or Principal).

All supporting documents must be received by iTaalk within 24 hours of completing the online application.  Documents should be scanned or photographed and be less than 1MB and emailed after the online application is complete.  The address will be given at that time.  See the helpful hints below to ensure your application and documents comply with this timeframe.

Please be as thorough as possible in all areas of the application process. Some applications may NOT be accepted if answers are not completed to suggested standards or requirements.

The iTaalk Autism Foundation will notify you of your application's acceptance/status via the email you use to apply online.  Please use an active email address.

Helpful Hints:

Before beginning the application process, carefully read the guidelines above, and secure the required supporting documents. These may be documents you already have in your possession, but if not, wait until you have these documents to complete the online application (Online application time stamp will be used to determine 24 hour supporting document time limit).  If you do not have a scanner, an easy way to digitize your documents is to use a cell phone camera or digital camera to take a quality photo of the document.  Then attach to the email as you would any other file.  Another option is to ask the doctor and/or service provider to provide the document in a digital format (.pdf or .jpeg).

While you are waiting for the supporting documents, you can print the online application and begin to compile your responses.  If you already have your supporting documentation, please give yourself at least one hour to complete the online portion.  It is still recommended that you compile your responses in a word processing program and paste them as you go, as there is no way to save as you go along.

Be complete and be honest!  The recommended word counts are there for a reason...without complete responses you aren't giving your child the best chance.  If you've applied elsewhere, LET US KNOW!!! This will NOT hurt your chances...if anything it will help.  Applying for other grants shows us (and other organizations) that you have a passion for this technology and will try every resource available to secure this for your child.

Finally, if you have any questions or concerns about this grant process, email or facebook us!  We are happy to help answer your questions.  Be sure to "like" our facebook page (itaalk), follow us on twitter (@itaalk) and sign up for our email subscription as well.  We will be announcing winners and the chosen weeks through these media!

Thanks,
